Activities in which I am currently involved include:
Instructor, CPL 540 Community-based Housing. Analysis of local housing needs, issues and perspectives in the context of federal and nonfederal programs. Review of public-purpose strategies to provide housing that meets community needs.
Extension and Outreach -- The RI Extension Community Development Group which addresses growth management and sustainable communities issues including affordable housing issues. David Abedon, Howard H. Foster Jr., Tim Tyrrell, Marjorie E. Jensen, Graduate Assistants (3, part-time).
Healthy Indoor Air for America's Homes. Training for Home *A*Syst volunteers; focus group sessions with service providers to determine need and appropriate delivery systems; and direct programs for housing authorities and welfare-to-work clientele. Within CELS, the Healthy Indoor
Air program has been linked interdepartmentally with the Drinking Water Quality Program. Marjorie E. Jensen (Air Quality), Alyson McCann (Drinking Water Quality).
The Housing and Community Development Certificate (HCD) Program. Professional development for staff who are currently working in community-related or human service programs in private, public, or non-profit agencies. Upon successful completion of four graduate-level Community Planning courses, participants receive a Certificate in Housing and Community Development. Marjorie E. Board member, of the Church Community Housing Corporation, Newport, RI, a nonprofit housing organization and Area Housing. Office for Newport County. The organization provides below-market-rate home ownership and rental opportunities for lower-income family and elderly residents through housing rehabilitation, reuse, infill-construction, community land trust properties and, occasionally, new projects.
Board member of West House, a nonprofit corporation providing Section 202 housing and supportive services to low-income, frail elderly in Middletown, RI.
