I have served on the Board of Directors and Chair of the Development Committee, of a non-profit organization called the Apeiron Foundation. The agency, founded by Brad Hyson, Executive Director, focuses on environmental sustainability issues particularly in the area of housing an green space. We are currently constructing a sustainable housing model, which is built with materials that are environmentally friendly and which preserve our environment. The house is located at the site of Camp Hamilton (Nickerson Community Center) in Western Coventry. Upon completion, the house will serve as a Statewide Environmental Education Center which will educate and train the general public urban, suburban, and rural) about sustainability issues and preserving the environment. I mentioned this to Pat Logan a few months ago when he met with Extension staff.
As an outgrowth of the Apeiron Foundation, we are currently facilitating and serving as the primary Coordinators of a Rhode Island Sustainability Coalition. We are currently planning a Sustainability Conference for the Spring (around April). I have volunteered to be the primary facilitator of the process in bringing together organizations and individuals to join and sustain the Coalition.
