This is a reminder that a planning meeting for the new URI Sustainable Communities Initiative will be held December 8, Wednesday, from 2:15 - 6:30 in the Galanti Lounge of the University Library. This initiative has been proposed by several groups and departments and is intended as a broad theme of the Coastal Institute. The planning meeting will allow all who are interested in aspects of sustainable community development to participate in discussing the potential initiative.

There will be three main topics for the meeting:

• What do we mean by sustainable communities and which questions/issues/topics/activities should be part of the intiative?
• What are the strengths of URI in these questions/issues/topics/activities?
• What impact would we like this initiative to have (in the area/state/nation/world)?
