Impacts:  Over the past few years Phragmites has been spreading from the edges. A fresh water creek drains into the Phragmites, and then into a tidal creek. The sluice gate in the old bridge foundation restricts the tide slightly. There is also an old road on the marsh which restricts tidal flow in approximately a quarter of the marsh.

Historic Conditions:  Historically it used to be a skating pond, flooded intentionally. There also used to be a bridge, which washed out approximately ten years ago onto the marsh, the foundation remains, and contains a sluice gate. The land was owned by the Rockwell family until 1968 when they gave it to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. In the past, there was manure run-off into the marsh from adjacent property.
