Access Point(s):   Not documented for this site.

Public Use:  Not documented for this site.

Impacts:  There is fill in areas in the northern, southern and western portions of the marsh. There is >20% coverage of marsh by Phragmites over the last 25 years due to the development of Gov. Frances Farms. Other non-native plants such as Chinese Bittersweet and knotweed are found in upper elevations. The buffer is decreasing, and ditches have been dug for irrigation. In the west incline there are well established occurrences of fringing marsh. Tides are unrestricted. 16-35% of adjacent upland areas within 500' of marsh consists of impervious surfaces. <5% of upland/marsh perimeter consists of man-made shoreline armoring. An unmanaged vegetative buffer zone occurs along >76% of the upland/marsh perimeter (reported STB 1996)

Project Size:  50 acres

Area Benefited:   Not documented for this site.

Restoration Description:  Restoration of native species, elimination/control of invasives.

Restoration Date:  9/1/2000

Target Species:   phragmites

Historic Conditions:  Drainage ditches were put in during the 1830s to irrigate adjacent farm lands (reference?). In the past 25 years Phragmites has been taking over the southern shore of the cove. The Rhode Island Audubon owns the northwestern side of the marsh. In the 1980s filling (with sand, by a resident) occurred in the northern portion of the marsh. In the past two centuries, the southern and western areas of the marsh have been influenced by fill associated with dam and road construction; this has limited the extent of the marsh. Historically there has been cutting of grasses near the marsh.
