Access Point(s): boat ramp, conservation/wildlife area, path shore Public Use: Boat Ramp; Conservation/ Wildlife Area; Path to Shore Impacts: Road and mill construction in the area during the 1950's involved rerouting the historic channel through a culvert which passed under a road. Fish currently migrate up to this point, but do not negotiate the rerouted channel due to awkward curves and a lack of daylight under the road (USACE-NED 2002). Project Size: 20 acres Area Benefited: 20 acres Restoration Description: Two aluminum steeppass fishways will be installed, along with a new, shorter concrete culvert. A trap and transport program was considered in the original suite of alternatives for the project. However, this option was determined to be impractical due to land access restrictions. Restoration Date: Not documented for this site. Target Species: river herring Historic Conditions: Historically, herring and shad spawned in the pond, migrating to and from Block Island Sound via Cross Mills Brook and Ninigret Pond.
