Public Use: Scenic View Impacts: In the upper creek area, there is stormwater and non-point pollution run-off from Camp Ave and Post Road. There is also substantial Phragmites in the northern area, with brackish water conditions. At the top portion of the creek there are street drain pipes which carry water from drainage ditches into the creek. In the middle portion of the creek there are also street drain pipes which flow into the creek. At Long Point there is an extensive Phragmites stand south of tidal restriction one (at the southern portion of the area), a 10'-15' wide old escape road. There has also been yard waste noted along the shorelines. Tidal restriction 3 (north-eastern area of Long Point) is an earthen-dam path eight feet in width, with a small area of high marsh behind it. An invasive plant cover ranging from 5-20% can be found in the region. 15-35% of adjacent upland areas within 500' of marsh consists of impervious surfaces. <5% of upland/marsh perimeter consists of man-made shoreline armoring. An unmanaged vegetative buffer zone occurs along >25% of the upland/marsh perimeter adjacent to residential areas but the majority of the sights visited display a buffer zone of >75%. (reported STB 1996) Project Size: Not documented for this site. Area Benefited: Not documented for this site. Restoration Description: Not documented for this site. Restoration Date: Not documented for this site. Target Species: Data not available Historic Conditions: In 1940 the U.S. Navy filled in a large pond in the northern portion. Ditches remain, carrying freshwater to the beginning of Mill Creek. Over the years there has been substantial road run-off to this area. Phragmites was first noticed in the upper/northern portion of the creek 25 years ago. Gilbane Inc. has bought Wickford Point and is selling lots. Oysters have been returning in large numbers since the mid-1940s. This area is relatively unchanged wetlands for over 200 years. Project Contact Info: Not documented for this site. Public Use: Boat Ramp Impacts: Loss of eelgrass beds, declining water quality Project Size: Not documented for this site. Area Benefited: Not documented for this site. Restoration Description: Determine the location and relative contribution of nutrient pollution in the Wickford Harbor watershed using the University of Rhode Island Cooperative Extension Service watershed assessment method, MANAGE. MANAGE will evaluate current and future pollution risks to surface water and groundwater in the Wickford Harbor watershed. The assessment will use the RI Geographic Information System to identify pollution sources by analyzing different land uses in the watershed. Restoration Date: Not documented for this site. Target Species: eelgrass Historic Conditions: Not documented for this site. Project Contact:
