Restoration Description: Save The Bay and URI Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) conducted an eelgrass transplant project in 1998. A new transplant method was employed, involving the use of both seeds and transplants together. Transplants were spaced closely together and seeds were scattered around the transplant area. The seedlings transplanted in Wickford Harbor were grown by local area high schools participating in Save The Bay's Seagrasses in Classes program. Students also assisted divers conducting the transplants. Monitoring conducted in 1999 showed 10% to 20% coverage of eelgrass in the transplant sites. Additional transplants were conducted in Wickford Harbor during 2000. Restoration Date: 2/9/1998 Target Species: eelgrass Historic Conditions: Existing eelgrass bed in same vicinity as restoration project is 5.65 acres. Project Contact:
