Dr. Görres is best described as a physicist. His interests are in expanding the application of physics in natural resources science. He is probably the only person ever to have modeled both a plantation forest and a sheet of paper. His research projects include structural modeling of porous solids, integration of physical and temporal dynamics in soil ecosystems, biogeophysics of nutrient cycling, evaluating risk of ground water pollution from agricultural and urban non-point source pollution under conditions of spatial and temporal uncertainty, spatial variability of soil ecological processes at different landscape scales. He has collaborated with research groups in Canada and the United Kingdom to achieve some of his objectives. Representative Publications: Gorres, J. & A.J. Gold. In Press. "Incorporating spatial variability into GIS to estimate nitrate leaching at the aquifer scale." J. Env. Qual. Gorres, J., R. Amiri, J.R. Wood, & A. Karnis. In Press.
