Barrier island ecology and of colonially nesting waterbird populations in littoral environments are particular research foci. Currently, Professor Buckley is one of four Principal Investigators on a multidisciplinary National Biological Service/National Park Service research project investigating the relationships between Neotropical passerine migrants, ticks, Lyme disease, and mammals at Fire island National Seashore, Long Island, New York. Additionally, as Editor of the Colonial Waterbird Society Bulletin, and a Council Member of the Colonial Waterbird society, she maintains an extensive foreign correspondence and information exchange with other Colonial Waterbird Biologists in over 37 countries.
