Bib and Overview Paper Requirement

 

Due: May 11. 3:00 PM

Topic: Choose a topic in landscape ecology that is of special interest to you. Clear your choice by August or Hollister as soon as possible. They will make sure you have not chosen something too broad or too narrow.

Bib: Prepare an annotated bibliography for a dozen or so articles that you found to be extremely insightful when you are preparing your class lecture topic. For each paper provide a few sentences overview of the paper then give a description of the points you found most interesting. Do not just rehash the paper, we could read the abstract and get that much. Give us your critical review. You may include application papers, method papers, or theory. Please stay with the primary literature (book chapters, edited books, and journals). Do not cite technical reports or conference proceedings.

White Paper: Prepare a 3-5 page written overview of what you learned in researching your topic. What is the state of knowledge? What concepts or papers were revelational to you? Make it personal. This is your chance to express an opinion on the topic.

Written Deliverables: The White Paper and Bib should be in the same MS. Word file. Give the overview first, then the bib. We will post your paper and bib on the class web site for the whole world to see.

Oral Summary: We will meet during the final exam time for this class (Monday, May 11, 3:00 PM) in Room CIK 026. Each of you will provide a 10 minute oral overview of your major findings. No graphics or handouts are allowed.
