Course Purpose:
The purpose of the course is to introduce students to “real
world” problems faced by environmental and resource agencies
in the coastal zone. Speakers will discuss how research has been
conducted and then applied to address coastal issues and how successful
the research was in solving problems. Human interaction with the
coastal environment and the politics associated with environmental
programs will enter into many discussions.
Course Organization:
Each class will consist of a presentation (40-50 minutes) followed
by class discussion. Presentations will be given by scientists
and resource managers who have worked on management issues in
coastal areas. Readings for each session can be downloaded from
the course website one week prior to the class meeting. Class
preparation and participation is expected.
