Historically, access to the Homeland Infrastructure Foundation-Level Data (HIFLD) has been restricted to applicants meeting a variety of criteria, such as working for a federal government agency, or state emergency management agency. With the release of their new ArcGIS Online Open Data website, the HIFLD has made data previously contained within the Homeland Security Infrastructure Program (HSIP) databases available, and open, to the public.
Topobathy LiDAR is the combination, or parallel collection of traditional terrestrial LiDAR and bathymetric LiDAR. Here we will walk through the process of creating a high-quality topobathy Digital Elevation Model utilizing a portion of the 2014 NOAA National Geodetic Survey (NGS) Topobathy LiDAR data.

Once logged in, using your public or organizational account, you will see each of your story maps listed. You will also see the web maps that are feeding your story map and the layers used. Northeast Ocean Data (NEOD) is a decision support tool and information resource for ocean data users from the Gulf of Maine to Long Island Sound. Maintained by a diverse Working Group, NEOD is comprised of data, tools and information from a variety of organizations, such as Applied Science Associates, The Nature Conservancy, NOAA Office for Coastal Management and SeaPlan, to name a few.

Bathymetric data is often in one vertical datum and terrestrial elevations in another. You open the data in ArcGIS and hope that the on-the-fly projection takes care of things, only to realize it only works for the horizontal datum. Learn the steps necessary to convert LAS data from NAVD 88 to MHW, these methods could also be used for other vertical datum transformations.
