In association with the North End Restoration project, the USACE collected topographic profiles on the northernmost 13 km of Assateague Island. A sled survey collected elevations from the upper beach to the depth of closure along transects spaced at 0.25 km intervals. A survey sled consists of a survey rod supported on a sled that rides along the sea bottom while being towed. The runners on the sled are normally 10 to 20 feet long, and each bottom elevation reading is an average of the elevation of the end points of the runners.
Elevations in the USACE profiles dataset were referenced to UTM 18 North, NGVD29, meters.
CorpsCon6 was used to convert these points into UTM 18 North, NAVD88, meters. These tables were then concatenated into one table containing all profiles for the year, imported into ArcMap using the 'Add XY Data' Tool, and then exported as shapefile.
