Abstract:
Eelgrass is a vital part of estuarine and marine habitats.
Over the summer of 1999 and 2000, eelgrass was mapped
within Ninigret Pond using field notes, GPS, digital
orthophotography and line-intercept transects. Initial
delineations were done by field reconnaissace of the entire
shoreline by boat. Exsisting beds of eelgrass were
transcribed onto enlarged field copies of USGS Topographic
maps. Further delineations were based on GPS and
line-intercept point data sets. The result is a polygon
data set showing the remaining eelgrass bed within Ninigret.
Purpose:
The data was collected as a portion of a master's thesis.

Polygons were delineated by heads-up-digitizing on MIT
digital orthophotography. Boundaries of polygons were
determined from shoreline reconnaissance, field notes, GPS,
and line intercept transects. Eelgrass cover in all
polygons is between 25-100%.
